My trip started off flying from Detroit to Bogota. We spent one evening here at Hotel Augusta. The next morning we took a tram up to the top of a mountain where we had the most amazing views of the city. From there we took a bus to the airport where we flew to Armenia, Colombia. Waiting on the other side of the terminal were two jeeps. We jumped on the back of these jeeps as we drove through the beautiful countryside. Finally after our long journey we arrived at Recuca, a coffee plantation. Here we learned about growing, harvesting, the process of cleaning and creating the beans into coffee. Then of course we got to try samples for ourselves. That was the best coffee I had ever had. After our tour we got back on the back of our jeeps to check in to our hacienda that evening. After our wonderful sleep we got on a bus and took a 7 hour drive through the mountains to Medellin. Here we checked into hotel Florencia for the night. The next day we woke up and experienced the famous Pablo Escobar tour. What a fantastic learning experience! Afterwards we had our own free time to do whatever we liked. This is where I went Paragliding for the FIRST TIME. What an exceptional experience! The next morning we flew to Cartagena. We checked into our final hotel behind the walled city. What a cool looking area. It was like taking a step back in time to cobblestone streets and shopping EVERYWHERE. When we arrived we took a private tour of the outskirts of the walled city. That evening we watched the sunset before we spent the night exploring the town. The next day several of us took another private tour. This one was to a volcano mud bath. We spent some time getting a massage within the warm mud and walked over to a lake to wash ourselves off. As a surprise we were then taken to a completely deserted beach. Here we experienced fresh caught fish, massages from the locals, horseback riding and just an overall relaxing afternoon. This evening we went back to the hotel, had an amazing goodbye dinner before everyone left the next day. My trip did not end here as I flew back to Bogota for a few days. Here I visited the main square in Bogota for some local shopping and visited the Salt Cathedral before I went home.
